Xyloaid 5%
Xyloaid 5% (Lidocaine) is a local anesthetic ointment for topical application only manufacturer by BH Barrett Hodgson Pakistan (pvt) Ltd.
Indications Xyloaid 5%: topical anesthesia for temporary relief of pain associated with minor burns and abrasions of the skin e.g sunburn, herpes zoster and labialis, pruritus, sore nipples, insect’s bites.
Anesthesia of mucous membrane, e.g various anal conditions such as haemorrhoids and fissures.
The alleviation of pain during examination and instrumentation e.g proctoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, cystoscopy, endotracheal intubation.
Dentistry: surface anesthesia of the gums prior to injection and before deep scaling.
Package contains: Each package contains a 20g tube of ointment.
Ingredients:
Each gram contains:
Lidocaine base 50gm.
Dosage & Administration:
The onset of action is 3-5 on the mucous membrane.
Apply 1-2g of ointment prior to endotracheal intubation.
In dentistry apply for 3-5 minutes at least to previously dried oral mucosa.
For sore nipples, apply on a small piece of gauze. The ointment must be washed away before the next feed.
Not more than 20g of the ointment should be administered in any 24-hour period.
Elderly patients and children over 12 years, acutely ill patients, or patients with sepsis be given doses commensurate with their age, weight, and physical condition.
In children less than 12 years: 0.1g ointment/kg bodyweight.
Not more than three doses should be administered during 24 hours.
Contraindication:
Known history of hypersensitivity to components of the ointment.
Precautions & Warnings:
Should be used with caution in patients with traumatized mucosa or sepsis.
When used in the mouth, may impair swallowing and enhance the danger of aspiration, and may increase the danger of biting trauma, allergic reactions are rare.
Used only on medical advice.
Store below 30°C.
Protect from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
