Urobutin
Urobutin (Oxybutynin HCI) tablets are an Antispasmodic/Anticholinergic agent. It is primarily used in conditions like neurogenic bladder, severe or recurrent duodenal and gastric ulceration, urinary frequency, and urinary spasms.

Indications: It is indicated for the treatment of:
1) Urinary frequency, incontinence, and nocturnal enuresis, in bladder dysfunction, especially in the elderly.
ii) Uninhibited vesical hyperactivity after bladder surgery, prostatectomy, and in association with acute and chronic cystitis.
Urobutin Mode Of Action: Oxybutynin is an anti-cholinergic agent that also exerts a direct relaxant effect on smooth muscle. It inhibits bladder contractions and relieves spasms induced by various stimuli.
It increases bladder volume, diminishes the frequency of contractions and delays the desire to void in functional disturbances of neurogenic bladder. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Oxybutynin markedly decreases the inner pressure of the bladder and reduces symptoms of pain, desire to void and stress incontinence in patients with reflex or uninhibited neurogenic bladder.
Dosage & Administration: To be taken orally.
- 1-5 years: 0.2 mg/kg/dose 2-4 times/day.
- More than 5 years: 5mg tablet twice daily, upto 5mg 4 times/day maximum.
- Adults: 5mg 2-3 times/day, upto 5mg 4 times/day maximum.
Contraindications: Urobutin tablets should not be administered in patients with glaucoma, partial or incomplete gastrointestinal obstruction, intestinal atony, myasthenia gravis, prostatic hypertrophy or other diseases causing urinary retention.
Precautions & Warnings: Urobutin tablets should not be administered in pregnancy or to children less than 5 years of age. The tablets should only be given to pregnant women if, in the opinion of the clinician, the benefits of therapy outweigh the possible hazards.
- Patients should be warned that Urobutin Tablets may produce drowsiness, and if affected, they should not drive or operate machinery.
- Urobutin Tablets should be administered with caution to patients with ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon. autonomic neuropathy, severe heart diseases, renal or hepatic disease.
- The tablets should be avoided in patients with ileostomy or colostomy, as diarrhea, which is an early symptom of incomplete intestinal obstruction, could be undesirably prevented.
Adverse Reactions: Anticholinergic side effects may occur, such as dry mouth, blurred vision, decreased sweating, drowsiness, tachycardia, palpitations, urinary retention, and constipation. Allergic reactions of the skin may also occur.
