Talopex

Talopex (Escitaopram) by Abbot is 14 tablets of 10mg. Talopex (escitalopram oxalate) is an orally administered selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Escitalopram is the pure S-enantiomer of the racemic bicyclic naphthalene derivative of citalopram. It is an antidepressant primarily used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults.

Indications & Usage: Talopex is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) indicated for:

  • Acute and Maintenance Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults and adolescents aged 12-17 years
  • Acute Treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in adults.

Clinical Pharmacology: Mechanism of Action: Talopex is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) and belongs to a group of medicines known as antidepressants. These medicines help to normalize the levels of serotonin in the brain. Disturbances in the serotonin system of the brain are key factors in the development of depression and related disorders.

Dosage & Administration: Talopex should generally be administered once daily, morning or evening with or without food. As directed by the physician.

Warning: Suicidality and Antidepressant Drugs. See full prescribing information for complete boxed warning. Increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults taking antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders. Talopex is not approved for use in pediatric patients less than 12 years of age.

Adverse Effects: Most commonly observed adverse reactions (incidence ≥ 5% and at least twice the incidence of placebo patients) are: insomnia, ejaculation disorder (primarily ejaculatory delay), nausea, increased sweating, fatigue and somnolence, decreased libido, and anorgasmia.

Contraindications:

  • Serotonin Syndrome and MAOIs: Do not use MAOIs intended to treat psychiatric disorders with Talopex or within 14 days of stopping treatment with Talopex. Do not use Talopex within 14 days of stopping an MAOI intended to treat psychiatric disorders. In addition, do not start Talopex in a patient who is being treated with linezolid or intravenous methylene blue.
  • Pimozide: Do not use concomitantly.
  • Known hypersensitivity to escitalopram, citalopram, or any of the inactive ingredients.
