IZILON

IZILON (MOXIFLOXACIN) by Bosch is a 5-tablet pack of 400mg broad-spectrum antibiotic. Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial type II topoisomerases (DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV) that are required for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair.

Package Contains: Each Izilon package contains 5 tablets of 400mg & a leaflet. It is also available in form infusion vial 400mg/250ml. IZILON

Composition:

Each film coated tablet contains:

Moxifloxacin HCI USP eq. to Moxifloxacin 400mg
(Product Specs.: USP)

Dosage: As directed by the physician.

Uses: It must only be prescribed when other antibiotics that are commonly recommended for the infections are inappropriate. IZILON is indicated for the treatment of the following bacterial infections in patients 18 years and older:

  • Acute bacterial sinusitis.
  • Acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease including bronchitis.
  • Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), except severe cases.
  • Complicated Skin and Soft tissue infections (cSSSI).
  • Mild to moderate pelvic inflammatory disease (i.e. infections of female upper genital tract, including salpingitis and endometritis), without an associated tubo-ovarian or pelvic abscess.
  • 400mg film-coated tablets are not recommended for use in monotherapy of mild to moderate pelvic inflammatory disease but should be given in combination with another appropriate antibacterial agent (e.g. a cephalosporin) due to increasing moxifloxacin resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae unless moxifloxacin-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae can be excluded.

Side Effects: Serious adverse reactions include tendinitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis.
Fluoroquinolones, including Moxifloxacin, have been associated with disabling and potentially irreversible serious adverse reactions that have occurred together including:

  • Tendinitis and tendon rupture.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy.
  • Central nervous system effects.
  • Fluoroquinolones, including Moxifloxacin, may exacerbate muscle weakness in patients with myasthenia gravis. Avoid Moxifloxacin in patients with known history of myasthenia gravis. Because fluoroquinolones, including Moxifloxacin, have been associated with serious adverse reactions, reserve Moxifloxacin for use in patients who have no alternative treatment options for the following indications:
  • Acute bacterial sinusitis
  • Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
