Ponstan

Ponstan (Mefenamic Acid) by LCI is a 50mg/5ml strength 90ml oral suspension (syrup) in mixed fruit flavour. It reduces fever, relieves pain, and treats inflammation.

Package Contains: Each package contains a 90ml oral suspension (syrup)and a leaflet inserted inside.

Composition: Ponstan

Each 5ml contains:

Mefenamic Acid 50 mg.

Dosage & Administration:

Daily dose of Ponstan Suspension is 25mg/kg body weight 3 times a day or as directed by a physician.

6 months – 2 Years 1 teaspoon (5ml)
2-5 years 2 teaspoons (10ml)
5-9 years 3 teaspoons (15ml)
9-12 years 4 teaspoons (20ml)

Indications: Ponstan Suspension contains Mefenamic Acid, which is an antipyretic agent and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) also effective in febrile and painful conditions in infants and children.

It also provides relief in symptoms of inflammation, such as redness and swelling, pain and discomfort caused by arthritis, muscular or rheumatic disorders, headache or toothache, pain after operations, trauma, fever in children, painful or heavy periods in girls

Warnings and Precautions: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Mefenamic Acid Suspension:

  • If you are taking any other NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen, diclofenac).
  • If you are taking any other anti-inflammatory medicines including steroids (e.g. prednisolone).
  • If you are taking aspirin or medicines that thin the blood (e.g. warfarin, clopidogrel).
  • If you are taking antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (e.g. paroxetine).
  • If you have kidney or liver problems.
  • If you have stomach or digestive tract problems or if you ever had an upset stomach after taking painkillers such as aspirin.
  • If you have asthma, or a history of asthma, as this medicine may cause breathing difficulties.
  • If you have a connective tissue disorder, e.g. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
  • If you have epilepsy.
  • If you are dehydrated.

Undesirable Effects: This medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Stop taking the suspension and seek medical help immediately if you have any of the following allergic reactions:

  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, lumps.
  • Severe itching of the skin, with a red rash or raised bumps.
  • Blistering of the mouth, eyes, and genital region, patchy areas of rash, peeling skin.
  • Diarrhea, passing blood in your stools (faeces/motions).
  • Vomiting any blood or dark particles.
  • Indigestion or heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea.

  • Shake well before use.
  • Store below 30℃.
  • Keep bottle tightly closed in a dry place.
  • Avoid exposure to heat & sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
