Metodine DF

Metodine DF (Metronidazole B.P+Diloxanide Furoate B.P) by Searle is approximately 90 ml suspension. Metodine is a chocolate brown, stable suspension with a chocolate flavour and a sweet taste.

Package Contains: Each Metodine package contains a suspension (syrup) bottle of 90 ml and a leaf inserted inside.

Composition:

Each 10ml contains:

Metronidazole benzoate B.P equivalent to Metronidazole B.P. 200mg

Diloxanide Furoate B.P 250mg.

Dosage & Administration:

For Children: 1-5 years: One teaspoonful three times a day.

6-12 years: 1-2 teaspoonfuls three times a day or as directed by the physician.

Uses: The Metodine DF syrup is indicated for the treatment of intestinal and extra-intestinal amoebiasis, amoebic liver abscess, and in the treatment of giardiasis.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Diloxanide furoate, Metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives, hepatic damage and active organic disease of the CNS. Because Metronidazole crosses the placental barrier, Metodine DF is contraindicated during the first three months of pregnancy.

Adverse Reactions:

Serious adverse reactions occur rarely with the recommended dosing schedule.
An unpleasant metallic taste, abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea may occur.
Darkening of the urine (of no clinical significance and due to Metronidazole metabolite), dysuria, cystitis or polyuria may occur.

Drug Interactions: Metronidazole has been reported to potentiate the anticoagulant effect of warfarin and other oral coumarin anticoagulants, resulting in a prolongation of prothrombin time. This possible drug interaction should be considered when Metronidazole is prescribed for patients on this type of anticoagulant therapy.
