Fonaz
Fonaz (Fluconazole for oral suspension USP) powder for oral suspension (syrup when reconstituted). It is an antifungal agent.
Package Contains: Each package contains a bottle of 35ml suspension (Syrup) when reconstitution of 50mg/5ml. It is also available as tablets (150mg) & capsules (150mg).
Composition:
Each 5ml of reconstituted suspension contains:
Fluconazole USP 50mg
Dosage & Administration: Use as directed by the physician. For further information see the pack insert.
Children to 11 years old: The maximum dose for children is 400-mg daily. The dose will be based on the child’s weight in kilograms.
Directions for Preparation: To prepare 35ml oral preparation first loosen powder. Add some boiled cooled water into the bottle and shake well. Add more boiled cooled water to the given mark on the bottle and shake well. When stored at room temperature discard unused portion after 7 days. When stored in refrigerator discard unused portion after 14 days.
Indications:
Fluconazole is indicated for the treatment of:
- Vaginal candidiasis (vaginal yeast infections due to Candida).
- Oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis: Fluconazole is also effective for the treatment of Candida urinary tract infections peritonitis, and systemic Candida infections including candidemia, disseminated candidiasis, and pneumonia.
- Prophylaxis: Fluconazole is also indicated to decrease the incidence of candidiasis in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation who receive cytotoxic chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
Specimens for fungal culture and other relevant laboratory studies (Serology, histopathology) should be obtained prior to therapy to isolate and identify causative organisms. Therapy may be instituted before the identify causative organisms. Therapy may be instituted before the results of the cultures and other laboratory studies are known; however, results become available, anti-infective therapy should be adjusted accordingly.
Pregnancy & lactation: If this drug is used during pregnancy, the patient should be informed of the potential hazard to the fetus.
Fluconazole is secreted in human milk. It should be used with caution.
Adverse Effects: Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. A few people develop allergic reactions although serious allergic reactions are rare.
Most common side effects are: headache, diarrhoea, sudden wheezing, difficulty in breathing or tightness in the chest – swelling of eyelids, face or lips itching all over the body, reddening of the skin or itchy red spots skin rash – severe skin reactions such as a rash that causes blistering (this can affect the mouth and tongue).
Fluconazole may affect your liver. The signs of liver problems include: – tiredness – loss of appetite – vomiting – yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes (jaundice).
Fluconazole may affect your adrenal glands and the levels of steroid hormones produced. The signs of adrenal problems include: – tiredness muscle weakness loss of appetite weight loss abdominal pain.
If any of these happen stop taking Fluconazole and consult doctor immediately.
