Diminazene

Diminazene (Diminazene diaceturate) 50ml injection by Star Laboratories is for veterinary (animal) use only. The injection is mostly used for animals like camels, horse, cow and sheep and is injected through I.M (Intra-muscular) only.

Package Contains: Each pack of Diminazene contains 50ml liquid injection in a glass vial and a leaf inserted inside. It is also available in 100 ml vials injection.

Diminazene diaceturate 35mg

(Product complies with B Vet. specs.)

Indications/Uses: It is indicated for the following:

  • Surra in Cattle and Camels, Horses and Dogs
  • Piroplasmosis (Red Water) in Cattle, Horses, Sheep, Goats & Dogs.
  • Tricomoniasis.

Diminazene is highly effective against the following parasites

  • Babesia bigemina, Bebesia bovis and Babesia divergens in cattle and Babesia caballi & Babesia equi in horses.
  • Trypanosoma evansi. Trypanosoma brucei and Trypanosoma congolense. These parasites cause Surra in Horses, Cattle and Camel
  • Tritrichomonas foetus. This parasite causes infertility, abortion and pyometra.

Description: The injection is one of the aromatic diamidines. It acts by selectively blocking kinetoplast DNA replication. It may also interfere with aerobic glycolysis in the parasite. Diminazene is well tolerated and has a good safety margin when used in recommended doses. With the administration of the injection, most of the parasites are eliminated from sick animals. Diminazene injection is safe and economical. It also protects against re-infection.

Dosage & Administration: Injection is given intramuscularly into the dewlap or thigh.

  • Cattle: 20-30 ml
  • Horses: 20-25 ml
  • Camels: 25-30 ml
  • Sheep & Goats: 3-5 ml

The best method of administration of the injection to cattle and horses is by deep intramuscular injection in large muscles of the neck or thigh. The dose for Trypanosomiasis (Surra) is 3.5 mg/kg or 10 ml/100 kg body weight. For Piroplasmosis in horses caused by Babesia caballia, Diminazene injection at the rate of 5 mg/kg would be enough. The dose may be repeated after 24 hours, if necessary.

For trichomoniasis, 30 ml of Diminazene should be infused in the prepuce. The orifice of the prepuce should be held closed and messaged for 15 minutes for desired action. This treatment is recommended for 5 days.  Diminazene back
