Dexachlor

Dexachlor (Ethical Specs) sterile eye drops of 5 ml contain Chloramphenicol & Dexamethasone. It controls the allergic inflammatory conditions of the infected eyes.

Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It stops bacteria from making proteins they need to grow and multiply. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory & immunosuppressant medication). Reduces inflammation and suppresses immune system activity.

The antibiotic targets the underlying bacterial infection while the corticosteroid helps control associated inflammation and discomfort.

Composition:

Each ml contains:

Chloramphenicol USP 5mg

Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate equ. to 1mg of Dexamethasone Phosphate BP.

Dosage: 1 to 2 drops 3 to 4 times a day or as directed by the physician.

Uses: Dexachlor containing Chloramphenicol and Dexamethasone sodium phosphate are used to treat infected eyes accompanied by inflammation. This combination helps control allergic inflammatory conditions of the eye by reducing redness, swelling, itching, and irritation while simultaneously eliminating the underlying bacterial infection.

The corticosteroid (Dexamethasone) 0component suppresses the allergic and inflammatory response, whereas the antibiotic prevents the growth and spread of bacteria, promoting faster relief and recovery.

Side Effects: Eye drops containing Chloramphenicol and Dexamethasone sodium phosphate may cause certain side effects, especially with prolonged or improper use.

Common Side Effects:

  • Mild burning or stinging sensation after application
  • Temporary blurred vision
  • Increased tearing

Less Common but Serious Side Effects:

  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Delayed wound healing
