Methachlor Ointment

Methachlor Ointment (Dexamethasone-Chloramphenicol) is a 3G (sterile) eye ointment. It is used for ocular infection and inflammation.

The ingredient Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid. It reduces inflammation, swelling, redness, and pain. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic. It treats certain bacterial infections by stopping bacteria from growing.

Package Contains: Each pack of Methachlor contains an aluminium ointment tube of 3g.

Composition: Each gram contains:  Methachlor Ointment

Chloramphenicol B.P 5.00mg.

Dexamethasone Sod. Phosphate B.P. equivalent to Dexamethasone Phosphate 1.00mg.

Dosage & Administration: As directed by the physician.

Indications: Methachlor Ointment is indicated for ocular inflammatory conditions (e.g. uveitis, marginal keratitis, conjunctivitis, blepharitis and episcleritis) where bacterial infection is present or suspected.

Contra-Indications: Methachlor should not be used in patients hypersensitive to any of its components.

Precautions: As with the other corticosteroids, increased intraocular tension can follow extended use (1-2 weeks or longer). Store below 30°C.

Caution: Protect the medicine from sunlight and light. Keep it in a cool and dry place, out of the reach of children.

Warning: Do not use if you have any known sensitivity/allergy to any ingredient of the medicine. After opening the tube for the first time, the medicine remains usable for one week.

How to Apply:

  • Wash your hands.
  • Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket.
  • Apply a thin ribbon (about 1 cm, or as directed) of ointment inside the lower eyelid.
  • Close your eye gently for 1to 2 minutes to allow the ointment to spread.
  • Your vision may be blurred for a few minutes after application; this is normal.

Warning & precautions:

  • Use it only for the duration prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • Avoid wearing contact lenses unless your healthcare provider says it’s safe.
  • Do not share the ointment with others.
  • If your eye pain, redness, vision, or swelling worsens, or if you don’t improve after a few days, seek medical advice promptly.  Methachlor Ointment back
