Hydrozole

Hydrozole cream (Hydrocortisone USP 1% w/w & Clotrimazole USP 1% w/w) is a broad anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory cream for sensitive & inflamed fungal skin conditions.Hydrozole

Package contains: Each package of Hydrozole contains a 20g cream tube.

Ingredients (Composition):

Hydrocortisone 1% & Clotrimazole 1%, Cetomacrogol 1000 Cetostearyl Alcohol, White Petrolatum, Light Liquid Paraffin, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Chlorocresol, Sodium Hydroxide, Lactic Acid & Purified Water.

Dosage and Administration: (Adults, elderly, children, and infants) for topical use only.

Method of Administration: The cream should be applied on clean dry areas of affected skin. Apply thinly and gently rub in using only enough to cover the entire affected area twice a day for up to seven days.

Treatment should not be continued for more than seven days without medical supervision. If the condition worsens or does not improve within seven days, treatment and diagnosis should be re-evaluated.

Use in Children: In comparison with adults, children and infants may absorb proportionally larger amounts of topical corticosteroids and thus be more susceptible to systemic adverse effects. In infants and children under 12 years of age, long-term continuous topical corticosteroid therapy should be avoided where possible, as adrenal suppression can occur.

Indications: Topical preparations combining hydrocortisone with clotrimazole are indicated for adults, elderly, children and infants for dermatophyte and yeast infections of the skin when inflammation is prominent.

This includes conditions such as fungal-infected dermatitis, intertrigo and candida nappy rash.

Contraindications: The following should not be treated with hydrocortisone with clotrimazole:

  • Patients with known history of hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone, clotrimazole or any components of the formulation
  • Primary cutaneous viral infections
  • Primary infected skin lesions caused by infection with fungi or yeasts when inflammation is not prominent
  • Hydrozole-backPrimary or secondary infections due to bacteria
  • Pruritus without inflammation
  • Rosacea
  • Acne vulgaris.

Pregnancy: The administration of hydrocortisone with clotrimazole during pregnancy should only be considered if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus. The minimum quantity should be used for the minimum duration.

Lactation: If used during lactation, hydrocortisone with clotrimazole should not be applied to the breasts to avoid accidental ingestion by the infant.

Adverse Reactions: Hypersensitivity & Application site irritation/pain.

  • Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression: Cushingoid features (e.g. moon face, central obesity), delayed weight gain/growth retardation in children, osteoporosis, glaucoma, hyperglycemia/glycosuria, cataract, hypertension, increased weight/obesity, decreased endogenous cortisol levels, steroid withdrawal syndrome.
  • Allergic contact dermatitis/dermatitis, urticaria, skin atrophy, pigmentation changes exacerbation of underlying symptoms, skin burning/skin pain, hypertrichosis, rash, pruritus, erythema, dry skin, skin striae, blisters, skin exfoliation irritation skin edema.

Interactions: Co-administered drugs that can inhibit CYP3A4 have been shown to inhibit the metabolism of corticosteroids leading to increased systemic exposure. The extent to which this interaction is clinically relevant depends on the dose and route of administration of the corticosteroids and the potency of the CYP3A4 inhibitor.

Overdosage Symptoms and Signs: In the case of chronic overdosage or misuse the features of hypercortisolism may occur (see Warnings and Precautions, Adverse Reactions). Dizziness, nausea, and vomiting may be seen.

Treatment: In the event of chronic overdosage or misuse, topical corticosteroids should be withdrawn gradually by reducing the frequency of application because of the risk of adrenal insufficiency. Further management should be as clinically indicated or as recommended by the national poisons centre.

Warnings and Precautions: Manifestations of hypercortisolism (Cushing’s Syndrome) and reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression can occur in some individuals as a result of increased systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids. If either of the above are observed, withdraw the drug gradually by reducing the frequency of application, or by substituting a less potent corticosteroid.

Abrupt withdrawal of treatment may result in glucocorticosteroid insufficiency. Visual disturbance has been reported by patients using systemic and/or topical corticosteroids. If a patient has blurred vision or other visual disturbances, consider evaluation of possible causes which may include cataract, glaucoma, or central serous chorioretinopathy.

Contraceptives: Laboratory tests have suggested that, when used together, this product may cause damage to latex contraceptives Consequently the effectiveness of such contraceptives may be reduced. Patients should be advised to use alternative precautions during treatment and for at least five days alter cessation of treatment.

Instructions: To be used as directed by physician. Store in a dry place below 30°C. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children. Before use read all the information on a package. Kindly report any adverse event to GSK.
