Azitrax

Azitrax (Azithromycin U.S.P.) by SHAIGAN is a 250 mg (1 × 6) capsule. Azithromycin is a macrolide with slightly less activity than erythromycin against Gram-positive bacteria, but enhanced activity against some Gram-negative organisms, including H. Influenzae.

Composition:  Each Capsule Contains:
Azithromycin Dihydrate eq. to Azithromycin, U.S.P 250 mg

Indications / Uses:  It is indicated for respiratory-tract infections; otitis media; skin and soft-tissue infections; uncomplicated gonorrhea, uncomplicated genital chlamydial infections and non-gonococcal urethritis, mild or moderate typhoid due to multiple antibacterial-resistant organisms; Lyme disease.

Dosage & Administration:  250 mg once daily for 4 days;

Child over 6months:
10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days; or as per body weight.

  • 15-25 kg, 200 mg once daily for 3 days;
  • 26-35 kg, 300 mg once daily for 3 days;
  • 36-45 kg, 400 mg once daily for 3 days
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea, uncomplicated genital chlamydial infections and non-gonococcal urethritis: 1g as a single dose.
  • Hepatic Impairment: Avoid in severe liver disease.

Side Effects: Anorexia, Dyspepsia, Flatulence, Dizziness, Headache, Malaise, Paraesthesia, Arthralgia, disturbances in taste and vision; less commonly Constipation, Gastritis, Chest Pain, Oedema, Anxiety, Sleep disturbances, Hypoaesthesia, Leucopenia, Photosensitivity; rarely Agitation; also reported syncope, Convulsions, Smell disturbances, Interstitial nephritis, Acute Renal Failure, Thrombocytopenia, Haemolytic Anaemia, Tongue discoloration.
