Azythra

Azythra (Azithromycin) powder for oral suspension taste masked USP Specs syrup (when reconstituted). It is an antibiotic (macrolide) drug. It is used for infections.

Package contains: Each package contains Azythra syrup (when reconstituted) Approx 15ml (200mg/5ml) & a leaflet. It is also available as 1X10’S capsules in blister pack of 250mg each. Azythra

Composition:

Each 5ml contains Azithromycin USP 200mg as dihydrate.

Directions for preparation: Tap bottle to loose powder from walls. Add boiled & cooled water (10ml) with measuring cap provided in pack. Close cap & shake well.

Dosage: As directed by the physician. For detailed information see leaflet. For children 7.5ml per kg, after every 12 hours or as directed by the Doctor’s instructions.

Note: After reconstitution the suspension may be used for 14 days if stored at room temperature. Shake well before use. Keep cap tightly closed.

Indications: Azithromycin is indicated for the infections caused by susceptible organisms; in lower respiratory tract infections including otitis tonsil bronchitis and pneumonia, In upper respiratory tract infections including tonsillitis and sinusitis, skin and soft tissue infections and acne.

Also indicated for mild to moderate typhoid used by multi-drug resistant strains. In sexually transmitted diseases in men and women azithramycin indicated in the treatment of uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis.

Dosage and administration: Azithromycin should be administered as single dose, and as common with many other antibiotics, should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours as after food.

Adults: For respiratory tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections the fatal dose is 1.5 g which should be given as 500 mg as a single dose daily for 3 days. Alternatively, an initial dose of 500 mg in the first day may be followed by 250 mg daily for further 4 days.

For sexually transmitted diseases caused by Chlamydia trachomatis the dose is 1 g given as a single dose. For typhoid fever, the dose is 500 mg to 1000 mg once daily for 5-7 days.

Use in children: There is no information for children under six months of age. The dose in children is 10mg/kg as a single daily dose for 3 days. For typhoid fever therapy should be given for 7 days.

Contraindications: Azithromycin is contraindicated: In patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin or any macrolide antibiotics.

Side Effects: It is well tolerated with a low incidence observed were mild to moderate in severity. The majority of side-effects were of gastrointestinal origin nausea, abdominal discomfort (pain/cramps), vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea and loose stools being occasionally observed. Allergic reactions such as rashes have also been rare reports of serious hypersensitivity reactions.
