Dosage: As advised by the physician. (See literature insert for details). Xavor-Diu should be swallowed with a glass of water without regard to food.

Uses: One tablet once daily (preferably in the morning to avoid nighttime urination) or Dosage may vary as prescribed by your doctor. The combination helps lower elevated blood pressure more effectively than either drug alone.

The use of Xavor-Diu relaxes and widens blood vessels (losartan) and removes excess salt and water through urine (HCTZ). Controlling blood pressure helps lower the long-term risk of stroke, heart attack, and heart failure. It is occasionally prescribed for mild swelling caused by heart, kidney, or liver conditions (less common). Losartan has kidney-protective benefits, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes and proteinuria (protein in urine).

Side Effects: common: Dizziness or lightheadedness (especially when standing up), Headache, Fatigue, Increased urination (because of the diuretic).  Muscle cramps or weakness (due to changes in electrolytes). GI upset: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, Back pain, joint pain.

Uncommon:  Kidney function changes (creatinine/BUN increases). Elevated blood potassium (hyperkalemia). Electrolyte disturbances (low sodium, etc). Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) or high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) in some people. Increased uric acid / possible gout flare-ups. Allergy-type skin reactions: rash, itching, urticaria. Weakness, dizziness, particularly when getting up (postural hypotension).

Rare: Severe allergic reactions (angioedema: swelling of face, lips, tongue). Severe dehydration (especially if fluid loss from other causes). Severe kidney failure in susceptible people. Significant electrolyte imbalances (too low sodium, potassium) that could affect heart rhythm. Liver enzyme increases / hepatic issues in rare cases. low blood pressure severe enough to cause fainting or shock if overdosed or with other risk factors.

Warning & Precautions: Angioedema may occur at any time during treatment (especially following first dose Frequent monitoring may be required, especially if the tongue, glottis or larynx are involved, as they are associated with airway obstruction. Discontinue therapy immediately if angioedema occurs.

Hypersensitivity reactions may occur with hydrochlorothiazide. Risk is increased in patients with a history of allergy or bronchial asthma. Symptomatic hypotension may occur upon initiation in patients who are salt or volume-depleted (eg, those treated with high-dose diuretics). Correct volume depletion before administration. Hydrochlorothiazide may cause acute transient myopia and acute angle-closure glaucoma, typically occurring within hours to weeks following initiation. Discontinue therapy immediately in patients with acute decreases in visual acuity or ocular pain.

Photosensitization may occur with the use of hydrochlorothiazide. renal function deterioration, Small increases in serum creatinine may occur following initiation; consider discontinuation only in patients with progressive and/or significant deterioration in renal function. There is a potential for cross-reactivity between members of a specific class. In cases where prior reactions were severe (Stevens-Johnson syndrome/TEN), some clinicians chose to avoid exposure to these classes.

Hypertension: Dose must be individualised: combination product may be substituted for individual components in patients currently maintained on both agents separately or in patients not adequately controlled with monotherapy. Not indicated for initial therapy of hypertension, except in severe hypertension.

Initiate treatment with losartan monotherapy: If blood pressure reduction is inadequate, then may initiate losartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination.

Initial: Losartan 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily may increase to losartan 100 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, followed by losartan 100 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily if needed to control blood pressure.
