AZOMAX Suspension

AZOMAX Suspension is a 200mg/5ml (Azithromycin) “Taste Masked” Powder for 15ml oral suspension, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is used to treat bacterial infections.

Package Contains: Each AZOMAX package contains a 15ml oral suspension in a strength of 200mg/5ml, & a leaflet.

Composition: Each 5ml contains: AZOMAX Suspension

Azithromycin U.S.P. 200mg (as dihydrate).

Dosage: As directed by a physician. For details, see enclosed leaflet.

Directions for Preparation: To prepare 15ml suspension, add 7.5ml boiled, cooled water to the powder by using the given measuring cup (1 ½ [covered]) and shake well to dissolve the powder. Prepared suspension is usable for 5 days. To be sold on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only.

Therapeutic indications: AZOMAX Suspension is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin.

  • Mild to moderate community-acquired pneumonia, in particular pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydophila psittaci (ornithosis).
  • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (adequately diagnosed).
  • Acute bacterial sinusitis (adequately diagnosed).
  • Tonsillitis, pharyngitis and acute otitis media in patients with hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics or when such treatment is not suitable for other reasons.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections such as furunculosis, pyoderma, impetigo and erysipelas in patients with hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics.
  • Uncomplicated genital infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Undesirable effects: The most common reported adverse events are gastrointestinal disorders. It may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash & headache.

Pregnancy, Lactation & Fertility:

Pregnancy: Azithromycin should only be used during pregnancy if the benefit outweighs the risk.

Breastfeeding: Azithromycin has been reported to be secreted into human breast milk, but there are no adequate and well-controlled clinical studies in breastfeeding women; both the benefits of breast-feeding for the child and the therapeutic benefits for the woman should be taken into account.

Fertility: In fertility studies conducted in rats, reduced pregnancy rates were noted following administration of azithromycin. The relevance of this finding to humans is unknown.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines: There is no evidence to suggest that azithromycin may have an effect on a patient’s ability to drive or operate machinery. However, certain adverse reactions, such as visual impairment and blurred vision, may have an effect on a patient’s ability to drive or operate machinery.

  • Shake well before each use.
  • Protect from direct sunlight, heat and moisture
  • Do not store over 30C.
  • Keep medicine out of the reach of children.
