Protole

Protole (Omeprazole) 40mg I.V. injection is 1 vial + 10ml sterile water for injection. Protole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat severe acid reflux and stomach/duodenal ulcers.

Uses: Protole (Omeprazole) contains the active substance omeprazole. It belongs to a group of medicines called ‘proton pump inhibitors’. They work by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces. Omeprazole Infusion can be used as an alternative to oral therapy.

Method of Preparation:

Injection: Reconstitute the contents of 1 vial with 10ml of sterile water for injection. The reconstituted solution for injection is stable for 8 hours when stored in a cool place.

Infusion: Reconstitute the content of 1 vial with 10ml of sterile water for injection and mix this solution with 100ml of sodium chloride (0.9%) solution for injection or dextrose (5%) solution for injection. The diluted infusion is stable up to 18 hours when stored in a cool place. Do not refrigerate the diluted infusion. Preferably use freshly reconstituted solution.

Warnings and precautions: Protole (Omeprazole) may hide the symptoms of other diseases. Therefore, if any of the following happen to you before you are given Protole (Omeprazole), or after you are given it, talk to your doctor straight away.

  • You lose a lot of weight for no reason and have problems swallowing
  • You get stomach pain or indigestion
  • You begin to vomit food or blood
  • You pass black stools (blood-stained faeces)
  • You experience severe or persistent diarrhoea, as omeprazole has been associated with a small increase in infectious diarrhoea
  • You have severe liver problems
  • You are due to have a specific blood test (Chromogranin A)
  • You have ever had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine similar to Omeprazole that reduces stomach acid.

Common Side Effects:

  • Effects on your stomach or gut: diarrhoea, stomach pain, constipation, wind (flatulence)
  • Headache
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting)
  • Benign polyps in the stomach.
