Opozol

Opozol suspension by OPAL Metronidazole, Amoebicide is a 60ml suspension in orange-flavoured. It is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication used to treat various bacterial and parasitic infections. It works by inhibiting the growth and survival of susceptible microorganisms. Opozol

Package Contains: Each package of Opozol contains 60ml suspension (syrup).

Composition: Each 5ml contains:

Metronidazole Benzoate (B.P.) equivalent to Metronidazole 200mg.

Indications: It is indicated for the following:

  1. All forms of amoebiasis, including intestinal/extra-infesting amoebiasis, amoebic liver abscess, and asymptomatic cyst passers.
  2. Symptomatic & asymptomatic trichomoniasis.
  3. Giardiasis.
  4. Intra-abdominal infection where anaerobic pathogens are involved.
  5. Gynecological infections, tubo-ovarian and pelvic abscess, and post-surgical vaginal cellulitis.
  6. Gingivitis.

DOSAGE & Administration: Amoeabiasis: Treatment to be taken for 7-10 days

Adults and children:

  • over 10 years: 2 teaspoonsful
  • 7 to 10 years: 1 teaspoonful thrice daily.
  • 3 to 7 years: 1/2 teaspoon 4 times daily.
  • 1 to 3 years: 1/2 teaspoon thrice daily.

Urogenital Trichomoniasis, Giardiasis, Ulcerative gingivitis: Treatment to be taken for 7 days:

Adults and children:

  • over 10 years: 2 teaspoonsful thrice daily.
  • 7 to 10 years: 1/2 teaspoon thrice daily.
  • 3 to 7 years: 1/2 teaspoon twice daily.
  • 1 to 3 years: 1/4 teaspoon thrice daily.

Adverse Reaction: The most common adverse reactions reported have been referable to the gastrointestinal tract, particularly nausea reported by about 12% patients, sometimes accompanied by headache, anorexia, and occasionally vomiting, diarrhoes, epigastric distress, and abdominal cramping. Constipation, Unpleasant metallic taste, furry tongue, glossitis, Reversible neutropenia, Urticaria, dryness of mouth, and fever.

Contraindications: Metronidazole is contraindicated in patients with a prior history of hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other metronidazole derivatives and during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Drug Interaction:

  • OPOZOL potentiates the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, resulting in a prolongation of prothrombin time.
  • Phenytoin or phenobarbital may accelerate the elimination of metronidazole, resulting in reduced plasma levels.
  • Cimetidine may prolong the half-life and decrease plasma clearance of metronidazole. Metronidazole may interfere with certain types of determinations of serum chemistry values, such as AST (SGOT).
  • ALT (SGPT) & LDH.  Opozol back

Instructions:

  • Shake well before use.
  • Store between 15°-30°C in a dry place.
  • Protect from light.
  • Keep all medicines out of the reach of children
