Femicon (Fluorometholone -Tetrahydrozoline) REMINGTON is a sterile 5 mL ophthalmic suspension. It is sterile ophthalmic drops for external use only. SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE. It is used to reduce eye inflammation and redness.

Fluorometholone is one of the most recent corticosteroids with an anti-inflammatory action less likely to cause elevation of IOP. It inhibits the inflammatory response to inciting agents of mechanical, chemical, or immunological nature.

Tetrahydrozoline is a sympathomimetic agent. When used topically, it effectively constricts the conjunctival and episcleral vessels, eliminates redness, burning, itching, and reduces the flood of tears, which leads to fast and distinct relief.

Composition:

Each ml contains:

Fluorometholone U.S.P. 1.00 mg.

Tetrahydrozoline HCI U.S.P 0.25 mg.

Remington’s Specs.

Dosage & Administration: 1-2 drops into the affected eye (s) 2-3 times a day. The dosage may be increased to 1-2 drops every hour for the initial 24-48 hours. Once a favorable response is achieved, reduce the dosage and then withdraw.

Indications/ Uses: Femicon is indicated in allergic non-infectious conjunctivitis (acute or chronic) and keratitis, inflammations of the anterior uvea (iritis, iridocyclitis), episcleritis, and myositis. It is also indicated in post-operative conditions after strabismus, cataract, and glaucoma operations.

Contraindications: Contraindicated in the presence of infectious tuberculosis, fungal or viral lesions of the eye, vaccinia, varicella, acute superficial herpes simplex keratitis, and acute purulent conjunctivitis. Femicon should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components. In case of hypersensitivity reactions, stop using the drug and contact your doctor. It is also contraindicated in narrow-angle glaucoma and dry eyes.

Adverse Reactions & Precautions:

Steroids may mask, activate, or enhance infection. If no improvement is observed aftera few days’ treatment, other measures should be followed.
Prolonged topical corticosteroid therapy is a possible factor in the formation of posterior subcapsular cataract, or may help in the occurrence of secondary eye infections from fungi or viruses.
Topical steroids when used in diseases causing thinning of the cornea or sclera, may lead to perforation of the globe.
Extended use of fluorometholone may cause an increase in IOP in certain cases, most of those with a family history of glaucoma. However, it is to be noted that the tendency to increase IOP is minimal with fluorometholone as compared with other corticosteroids.
Treatment should be continued with regular monitoring of IOP.
Prolonged use of topical steroids may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
Corticosteroid medication requires great care while treating patients with a history of herpes simplex keratitis.
Transient stinging, burning sensation, irritation, and pupillary dilation may occur after local use of products containing a vasoconstrictor.
Prolonged topical use of this product may give rise to systemic adverse reactions, such as headache and sleepiness (especially in children).
Prolonged use may give rise to a rebound effect (Reactive hyperaemia).
The eye drops may be used by patients using soft contact lenses, but administer only when the lenses are not worn.

Pediatric Use: Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.

Use in Pregnancy: Long-term use of topical steroids should be avoided in pregnancy.

Caution/ Instruction: Once opened, use within 4 weeks. Protect from sunlight and heat. Store in a cool, dry place away from children’s reach. Do not freeze. ON PRESCRIPTION ONLY. STORE BETWEEN 8-30° C.
