Omecap (USP Specification) Omeprazole 20mg (Manufacturer Specification) Next pharmaceutical, are Lactose & Gluten-free 14 Capsules, certified ISO. It reduces gastric acid secretion through a unique mechanism of action.

It belongs to a new class of anti-secretory compounds, the substituted benzimidazoles that do not exhibit anti-cholinergic or histamine antagonistic properties. It inhibits the secretion of gastric acid by irreversibly blocking the enzyme system of hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase (H/K ATPase), the proton pump of the gastric parietal cell. This effect is dose-related and leads to inhibition of both basal and stimulated acid secretion irrespective of the stimulus.

Package contains: Each pack of Omecap contains 14 capsules of 20mg & a leaflet. It is also available in 40mg capsules.

Uses: It is used to

Treats acid reflux and heartburn caused by acid flowing back into the food pipe.
Relieves symptoms like burning sensation in the chest, sour taste, or regurgitation.
Promotes healing of ulcers in the stomach or upper small intestine caused by excess acid or infection (H. pylori).
Used in combination therapy with antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori, a bacteria linked to ulcers.
Treats a rare condition where the stomach produces too much acid due to tumors (gastrinomas).
For people using NSAIDs (painkillers like ibuprofen, diclofenac) long-term, to prevent stomach damage.

Dosage & Instructions: Use as directed by the physician. For details, see enclosed leaflet. To be sold on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children. Store between 15°C and 30°C. Protect from light and moisture.

Warnings & Precautions: Omeprazole is generally safe for short-term use (4–8 weeks), but long-term or unsupervised use can cause complications such as nutrient deficiencies or infections.

If symptoms (like heartburn or indigestion) persist beyond 14 days, consult a doctor to rule out serious conditions like stomach ulcers or cancer. Do not use to mask serious stomach problems. Persistent or severe symptoms (e.g, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, or unexplained weight loss) could indicate a serious disease.

Omeprazole can temporarily relieve symptoms and delay proper diagnosis if used without medical advice. Long-term or high-dose use has been linked to kidney inflammation (interstitial nephritis). Signs: changes in urination, blood in urine, swelling, or fatigue. Stop the medicine and seek medical help immediately if these occur.

Side effects: OMECAP (Omeprazole) is well tolerated, and the adverse reactions have generally been mild and reversible.

Common: Central and peripheral nervous system: Headache, Gastrointestinal (Diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, and flatulence).

Uncommon: Central and peripheral nervous system: Dizziness, paraesthesia, somnolence, insomnia, and vertigo. Mild skin rash or itching.

Rare: Central and peripheral nervous system: Reversible mental confusion, agitation, aggression, depression, and hallucinations, predominantly in severely ill patients.

Gastrointestinal: Dry mouth, stomatitis, and gastrointestinal candidiasis.

Pregnancy & Lactation: Pregnancy Category C. There are no adequate or well-controlled studies in pregnant women. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

Lactation: It is not known whether Omecap is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk and because of the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants from it, a decision should be made whether, to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.

Pediatric Use: Available Data from children (1 year and older) suggest that the pharmacokinetics within the recommended doses are similar to those reported in adults. At steady state, lower plasma levels of Omecap were seen in some children.
