Moxtrex (Moxifloxacin HCI) tablet is a new synthetic 4-Quinolone derivative with bactericidal action against wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-Positive organisms.

Dosage: As directed by the physician. Commonly the dosage of Moxtrex is adjusted on the basis of severity of infections, type of pathogen involved, age, weight and renal functions of the patients.
Adults: The dosage range for adult is 400mg tablet to be taken once daily, for 7 to 10 days.
Dosage for infection of urinary tract is 400mg once daily depending upon severity. Infections of respiratory tract, 400mg once daily is suggested for 10 days, for Gonorrhea a single dose of 400mg is recommended.
Adolescent & Children: The use of Moxtrex in children & adolescents is not recommended, however, where the benefits are considered to be more than the potential risks involved, the advised dosage is 10-20mg/kg/day.
Oral doses of Moxtrex should be administered at least 4 hours before or 8 hours after antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, as well as sucralfate, metal cations such as iron and multivitamin preparations with zinc.
Indications: Moxtrex is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by Moxifloxacin sensitive organisms including:
- Upper and lower Respiratory tract infections (Acute Sinusitis).
- Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis community acquired pneumonia.
- Genital organs infections including gonorrhea.
- Bones and joints infections.
- Gynecological and obstetric infections.
- Ophthalmological infections.
- Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
- Skin and soft tissues infections.
Contraindications: Moxifloxacin is contraindicated in hypersensitive patients and in children except where benefits of treatment it exceeds the risks.
Use in Pregnancy & Lactation: As with other quinolones. Moxtrex has been shown to cause arthropathy to immature animals & therefore its use during pregnancy is not recommended.
Studies in animals have shown that Moxifloxacin is secreted in milk. Administration to nursing mothers is thus not recommended. However, on compassionate grounds it can be used in multi drug resistant strain infection.
Adverse Effects: Unpleasant reactions occur rarely during treatment with Moxtrex. However, the following are observed: Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Dyspepsia, Abdominal pain. Dizziness, Headache, Skin reactions like rashes & itching may appear.
Instructions: Stare at cool and dry place. Protect from sunlight & moisture. Store at room temperature below 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. To be sold and used on the prescription of registered medical practitioner only.
